My First Day In the World

I was born on May 19th, 2010. My mommy went into labor at around 1:30 AM on May 19th, but she thought it was nothing because her contractions weren't that painful. Dr. Gravelle told her weeks before my due date to take a warm shower and if the contractions didn't go away she should count how far they are apart from each other. They were about 5 minutes apart so they packed the car and left the house at 2:30 AM. They took their time driving to the hospital (Daddy will only go 5mph over the speed limit) and when they arrived she was checked into Labor and Delivery and monitored. Two hours later the doctor on call said she should go home because she wasn't dilating. I just wasn't ready to come out yet. Her 40 week doctors appointment was at 9:15 AM and by the time she got back to the hospital her contractions were 3 minutes apart and they were starting to become painful. Dr. Gravelle debated whether to admit her, but in the end called Labor and Delivery and she was admitted around 10:00 AM.

This is a picture of my mommy in her Labor and Delivery Room. Her gown is from B.Y.O.G- Bring your own gown. This is for hip mamas who don't want to wear an ugly, blue hospital gown. She found out about it through watching Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. It's a popular thing for movie stars. Everyone kept commenting that she looked so cute (that was her motive behind it) and they wanted to know where she got it from. The doctor said, "Wow! I didn't know the hospital was giving out cute gowns like that." My mommy laughed and said, "I wanted to look cute so I bought it online."

Dr. Gravelle decided to give my mommy Pitocin to make her labor go faster, but she didn't want to take the Pitocin until she had an epidural. She read online and found out through friends that once you are given Pitocin your contractions start to hurt a lot! The anesthesiologist was very nice and the epidural didn't hurt at all. After taking birth classes she was scared because they only focused on the bad things that could happen if an epidural didn't go well. She didn't feel one contraction after that (she said Thank God!). Daddy kept saying, "Here comes one.", but mommy couldn't feel it at all. She doesn't have a high pain tolerance so this was a good thing. After 8 1/2 hours of labor and no complications I was born.

Here are the exact details:

I slept in the nursery that night because mommy and daddy needed sleep. That is my first day and what a hectic and long day it was!
